Join me in the fourth installment of The Evolutionary’s subseries on Black Live Matter (they do btw, in case you have picked that one up yet) for a two part discussion with EDI leader Dawniel Miller.
Dawniel is black, female and lesbian. She is in a same sex marriage with another black woman and they have 2 teenage daughters. She immigrated to this country from Saint Lucia, in 2000. She was only 16 years old. She is the first in her immediate family to graduate high-school and college. Her and her wife are the first in both their families to own their own home and the first in their families to establish the kind of financial security which allows them to focus on their healthcare, raising their children and living their lives as much as society will allow.
None of the aforementioned has been accomplished without significant loss, opposition, ridicule, exclusion and discrimination. Nevertheless Dawni continues to focus on the wellbeing of herself, and her family- continuously fighting the social injustices to keep their well earned and deserved place in this world and this country.
Dawnielle is a powerful voice for the rights of people of color and the LGBTQ community.
